How to Set Up Abandoned Checkout
In this article, we are going to learn how to set up an abandoned checkout so you can recover some possible lost revenue using SureCart
What is an Abandoned Checkout
An abandoned checkout occurs when your customers begin the process of purchasing from your SureCart store but, for some reason, do not complete the transaction.
In simpler terms, it’s when they add items to their online shopping cart, proceed to the checkout page, but then leave the website without making a purchase.
SureCart will treat a checkout as abandoned if customers leave the checkout page without finishing their purchase. This happens after 30 minutes, but only if the customer has given their email address in the checkout form while buying something.
This email address is crucial because it allows SureCart to follow up with your customers, usually through automated emails, in an attempt to encourage them to return and complete their purchases.
These follow-up emails can also include incentives like discounts or reminders about the items left in the cart so the customer can return and buy things that they’ve added to their cart.
How to Set Up Abandoned Checkout
We’ll understand this with an example.
Let’s say you’re running a one-day-only sale campaign, and you want to maximize your chances of converting abandoned checkouts. In this case, you may choose to send all abandoned checkout recovery emails on the same day so customers can return and make the purchase.
So to set up abandoned checkout in SureCart, you can simply follow the steps:
- To access your SureCart settings, simply go to your SureCart dashboard and click on the “Settings” option in the menu.
- Navigate to the “Abandoned Checkout” section in the settings menu. This is where you can configure settings related to abandoned checkouts.
- In the Abandoned Checkout settings, locate the “Enabled” switch and toggle it on to activate the Abandoned Checkout feature. .
- Select when you want to send the first email reminder. We will set the “First Email Delay” as a default “1 Hour”, but you can change it as per your needs.
- For the “Second Email Delay”, select the time delay when you want to send the email, in our case, we will select 3 hours.
- Click on the “Final Email Delay” and select when you want to send the last email.
In case, you only want to send two emails, you can choose the “Don’t send” option to deactivate the Final Email Delay.
- After making all the desired changes, click the “Save” button to save your settings.
Once you’ve enabled the abandoned checkout, your customers will start receiving emails if they abandon their purchases on the checkout page.
How to Enable a Discount Code for Abandoned Checkout
With sending email reminders to customers, you also have the option to send an auto-generated discount code to the customers who were on the checkout page and entered their email but did not make the purchase.
This discount can be a fixed amount or you can set a certain percentage of the total cart value.
Enabling a discount code for abandoned checkouts is a straightforward process. So if you want to send for discount coupons to people who abandoned the checkout, simply follow the steps below to activate them:
- Enable the “Abandoned Checkout Discount” by toggling the switch. And you’ll have various options such as selecting the type of discount, specifying the discount amount, and setting the duration for the discount. Configure these settings according to your preferences.
- Click on the “When should we offer the discount?” dropdown and select which email in which you want to send the discount code.
- Click the “Save” button to save your changes.
Congratulations! You’ve successfully configured your abandoned checkout and enabled the discount codes. In the image below, you can see an example of how the email with a discount code will look:
Feel free to customize your email content and settings to suit your store’s needs and branding. If you have any further questions or need assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out.
Now, let’s explore some advanced settings to make even better use of the abandoned checkout feature.
Advanced Settings
In this section, we delve into some advanced options for the abandoned checkout feature. These include:
- Enabled in Test Mode: This feature enables the abandoned checkout in test mode. It’s useful if you want to test the functionality before going live.
- Ignore Purchased Products: With this feature, abandoned checkouts won’t be created if the products in the checkout have already been purchased.
- Grace Period: This feature allows you to set a waiting period before sending abandoned checkout emails. Let’s understand with an example:
Imagine you have an online shop where people put things in their cart but don’t buy them. The “Grace Period” is like a short waiting time you choose before you send them reminder emails to finish buying.
It’s like giving them a bit of time in case they change their mind or have a problem. If they buy within that time, no reminder emails are sent. But if they don’t buy, then after the waiting time, you send them emails to remind them about what they left in their cart and encourage them to buy.
In the advanced settings, check all the options that apply to your specific case. Once you’re satisfied with your selections, click on the “Save” button to save your changes.
Now, your abandoned checkout recovery system will work as per the settings you’ve made!
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I set a different coupon code in the abandoned checkout emails?
Yes, if you have created a coupon manually, you can add it to the email notification. But it won’t be dynamic. If you want the coupons to be auto-generated, you can set up an abandoned checkout discount as explained above.
Here’s how it works: Whenever an abandoned checkout is created for a customer, a unique discount code is generated. This discount code is sent with the email notification.
Can I have only one abandoned checkout email instead of 3?
Yes, you can have just one abandoned checkout email if that suits your needs. The abandoned checkout feature allows you to set up anywhere from one to three follow-up emails as per your preferences.
