How to Change the Domain or WP Installation of the SureCart Website
Unlike many WordPress e-commerce solutions, changing the domain or URL in SureCart is an easy process that does not require any third-party tools or database modifications.
In this article, we will explore how to migrate your SureCart store from one website to another by following a few simple steps.
In other words, we will see how to change the URL of your store website.
Changing The WordPress Installation
Many times, you may simply want to change your store location from one website to another. For example, you may have a SureCart store on website A and wish to move it to website B, or you may have SureCart on your staging website, and now it’s time to move it to production.
Moving the SureCart store from one to another WordPress installation is a simple process. To do that simply, follow these steps:
- Install the SureCart plugin on your new WordPress dashboard. Here, we have already installed and activated SureCart.
- Copy the API token from your SureCart dashboard app.surecart.com > API > Secret Token. Ensure you are using the correct store API key if you have multiple stores.
- Paste it in your new WordPress dashboard at SureCart > Settings > Connection.
During this process, all your products, store configuration, subscriptions, orders, and customers are transferred to the new website from the previous one.
Here it’s important to consider that, some items are not migrated like Custom checkout forms & product pages. However, you can easily create the same checkout forms and products page by copying them from your old store to a new one.
Changing The Store URL
We’ve learned how to move SureCart from one website to another. But what happens when SureCart remains on the website, and we simply change the domain?
For example, if your store URL is currently store.example.com and you want to change it to shop.example.com, follow these steps:
You can find these settings under SureCart > Settings > Store Settings.
- Update Store URL – Make sure you also change the URL of the Terms Page and Privacy Policy Page.
- Update contact Information – Change the website URL in your “Contact Information”.
Once you update this information, your SureCart store will move to new the URL. This information will be displayed to your customers on places like invoices/receipts and in any emails that need to comply with CAN-SPAM regulations.
Hence it is essential for customers to easily identify your business and get in touch when needed.
That’s it.
Now, whether you want to move your store from one website to another or simply change the URL, you know how easy this is and how it can be done.
