How to Set Up Regional Pricing with Location Capture

This document explains how to enable Location Capture in SureCart and use it to apply different pricing based on a customer’s country. This lets a store offer region-specific pricing at checkout, such as adjusting prices to match local purchasing power.

Requirements

  • WordPress admin access.
  • SureCart installed and activated.
  • At least one published product.
  • The store must be served over HTTPS. Browsers only allow location access on secure sites.

Step 1: Enable Location Capture

Location Capture is turned off by default. To enable it:

  • Go to WordPress Dashboard → SureCart → Settings → Orders & Invoices.
  • In the Checkout section, turn on Capture Location at Checkout.
  • Click Save.

When the setting is enabled, an information notice appears explaining that customers will be asked for permission at checkout, that declining does not block the purchase, and that the store owner is responsible for complying with applicable privacy regulations.

Step 2: Review the Permission Message

Before the browser’s native location prompt appears, customers see a short in-store message explaining why location is being requested. This message is customizable so it can match the store’s tone and comply with local requirements.

The following fields are available, and each uses a default value if left empty:

  • Permission Modal Title — the heading shown at the top of the message.
  • Permission Modal Description — the body text explaining the request. Supports basic formatting (bold, italic, lists).
  • Allow Button Label — the text on the button that proceeds to the browser prompt.
  • Decline Button Label — the text on the button that dismisses the request.

It’s recommended to keep the message accurate about how location data is used and stored. The captured location is saved to the order (see How Location Capture Works in the FAQ). Best practices suggest confirming the wording with whoever handles privacy compliance for the store.

Step 3: The Customer Experience at Checkout

When Location Capture is enabled, a customer completing a checkout will:

  • See the in-store permission message describing the location request.
  • Choose Allow or Decline.
  • If they choose Allow, the browser shows its own native permission prompt to confirm.

If the customer allows location access, their approximate location is resolved to a city, state, and country and saved to the order. If they decline, the checkout continues normally and no location is captured.

Step 4: View the Captured Location on an Order

When a location is captured, it appears on the order in the admin.

  • Go to WordPress Dashboard → SureCart → Orders.
  • Open an order placed with location capture allowed.
  • The resolved location appears in the Captured Location section, showing city, state, and country.

If the customer declined, the Captured Location section does not appear on the order.

Step 5: Apply Regional Pricing with a Dynamic Pricing Rule

The captured country can be used as a condition in a Dynamic Pricing rule to add a discount or fee based on where the customer is located. The country is matched using its two-letter code (for example, US for the United States, BR for Brazil).

  • Go to WordPress Dashboard → SureCart → Promotions → Dynamic Pricing.
  • Click Add New.
  • Enter a Name and Display Name, choose Start from scratch, and set Applies to to Checkout.
  • Click Continue.
  • Set the Price Type (discount or fee) and the amount.
  • Under Conditions, click Add Conditions.
  • Select the Geo Address Country attribute, choose a condition (such as is), and select the country.
  • Click Save & Publish.

Expected Outcome

Once configured, when a customer allows location access at checkout, their country is captured, and any matching Dynamic Pricing rule is applied automatically. For example, a rule set to apply a discount when Geo Address Country is BR will apply that discount only to customers whose captured location is in Brazil, regardless of the shipping or billing address they enter.

Notes and Limitations

  • Location Capture requires the store to be served over HTTPS.
  • The captured location is approximate. It resolves to a city, state, and country, not a precise street address
  • The captured country is independent of the shipping and billing address. A rule based on captured location uses the customer’s physical location, not the address they type in.
  • If a customer declines the location request, the checkout completes normally, and no location is stored.
  • Country values use the two-letter ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 format, the same format as the existing country dropdown fields.
